Depending on your keyboard layout in use, your suggestion might be
just as much 'a pain' :-)
On my JIS keyboards,  I'd need 'shift + cmd + {'. Some European
keyboards may need to modifier keys (option + shift + cmd).

If you really like your 'cmd + {'', you can customize the keyboard
shortcut (System preferences > keyboard and mouse, on 10.4).
