Indeed, the current "default" behavior is more of a hindrance than a 
help. Let us remember that the whole "Google" search function is 
extensible; thanks to CamiTools, I have about 20 search engines 
listed in there, so I do actually use it a fair amount.

Click once and have all text selected would be the default behavior I 
would (vastly) prefer.

But I wonder about the whole issue of Cocoa widgets and editable text fields...
