Why don't you work together ? I mean, in fact, why don't they work with you ? Because you seem to have done a wonderful work. Is it because you don't have the same point of view on something ? 2) Why do you choose "Adblock Plus", the same name as an other extension, whereas you've completly rewritten it ?!! Some people don't understand and think you're an usurper, unfortunately... Anyway, thanks for this new version of Adblock. Good that I've just written a history of Adblock: http://adblockplus.mozdev.org/history.html :) This explains it pretty much. I've been trying hard to get improvements into official Adblock - no success, not even with the most basic ones. Now I really want to stop wasting my time on rue and start changing something. > 2) Why do you choose "Adblock Plus", the same name as an other > extension, whereas you've completly rewritten it ?!! Some people don't > understand and think you're an usurper, unfortunately... Well, the name fits this extension well (and hopefully even more so once Adblock Plus 0.6.1 is released). It already has lots of features original Adblock can't offer though they aren't obvious at the first glance - IMHO features shouldn't stick out, instead they should simply make things work the way the user expects them to work. We are a little behind with the features from Adblock Plus 0.5 but this is changing fast (me and rue have to share the blame on this - me for releasing too early and rue for not making it clear until the last day whether he will take the rewrite and forbidding to add any Adblock Plus features to it). In the end every useful feature from Adblock Plus 0.5 should find its way into Adblock Plus 0.6. Adblock Plus 0.5 was never meant to outlive Adblock 0.5. I think mcm (Michael McDonald) has done great work on it and I want to give this extension a future. And well: I simply didn't want to invent yet-another-name-for-an-Adblock-fork, there are already too many. You could use userChrome.css (create this file in /chrome if it doesn't exist there yet). Put the following rules there: #abp-toolbarbutton { list-style-image: url("chrome://adblockplus/skin/abp-enabled.png"); } #abp-toolbarbutton[deactivated] { list-style-image: url("chrome://adblockplus/skin/abp-disabled.png"); } #abp-toolbarbutton[disabled="true"] { list-style-image: url("chrome://adblockplus/skin/abp-defunc.png"); } toolbar[iconsize="small"] #abp-toolbarbutton { list-style-image: url("chrome://adblockplus/skin/abp-enabled-16.png"); } toolbar[iconsize="small"] #abp-toolbarbutton[deactivated] { list-style-image: url("chrome://adblockplus/skin/abp-disabled-16.png"); } toolbar[iconsize="small"] #abp-toolbarbutton[disabled="true"] { list-style-image: url("chrome://adblockplus/skin/abp-defunc-16.png"); } Replace the URLs by whatever you want to have (e.g. file:///c:/icons/abp.png). Well, in a way it is - the filter is too complicated so people usually can't understand what it does. Difficult to have the good answer. 1) If you don't put any filter, beginners who don't touch options will think this extension does nothing. 2) But if you put a default filter, then some people will think this extension is too dangerous (when they don't see some images). So... But I agree with you, I think you musn't include filters; I prefer case 1 than 2. However, mcm's idea of synchronisation is good, and can help beginners. You have a temp allow (for session?) option and a perm list. Reason? You can't simply "unblock" anything you've already blocked (not yet at least - maybe we can get the necessary changes into Gecko 1.9), so you would need to reload the page in any case. Doesn't sound like a great feature to me. Need a convincing use case at the very least. No, that's the way it should work - you have the choice between the toolbar icon and "adblock" in the status bar (can be removed via options, right-click on it), you can also choose to have both. I'm considering replacing the word with an icon but this didn't happen yet. Yes, I would like to do this as well. Unfortunately it isn't that easy for buttons that have a dropdown menu. But I'm looking into it. I didn't see this site show any Flash banners, only images so far. But if it does, then http://bugzilla.mozdev.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12910 probably strikes here. As to layout problems - while I don't see any on this page, you should probably uncheck the "Collapse blocked elements" option. Then Adblock will simply block some elements without any further intrusion into the page. If the layout still changes then only because the page doesn't specify the size for some image that hasn't been loaded. And make sure you don't block any stylesheets - check it out in the sidebar (you can see the filter that blocked the element in the tooltip).
