Well, all I can say - you shouldn't have one large line, it gives you a number of disadvantages compared to a list of simple filters (like not seeing anything useful in the toolbar's tooltip) without providing a better performance (at least in ABP 0.7 simple filters are very fast). You can hide the hits column if you wish, turning off the feature wouldn't do you any good. As I said, you can split it up - there is no performance to be lost by it in Adblock Plus 0.7 (my test results on http://p2.forumforfree.com/-vp4868-adblockplus.html#4868 show that 3200 simple filters are just as fast as 150 of them). > you can see what I mean, that one ()ad line could catch lots.. But, when I try to add the filter (by clicking OK in the Preferences window) nothing happens for quite a while and then a warning message pops up that says that a slow script is running and I should stop the script or else FireFox response will get bad (I'm paraphrasing). It gives the options of OK (to kill the script) or CANCEL. Clicking Cancel seems to lead to the warning popping up again so I usually click OK. Then if I click OK in the Adblock preferences window the whole thing starts again with a warning about the slow script. So then I click OK on the warning message to stop the script again and then I click Cancel on the Preferences window. Amazingly enough the filter does get added! Seems to me something is not going correctly but I don't have a clue as to what it is. I suspect that the reason here is http://bugzilla.mozdev.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13461 - an issue that has been resolved in Adblock Plus 0.7 (currently release candidate). Wladimir From lmmcgowan at comcast.net Sat Apr 1 15:55:56 2006 From: lmmcgowan at comcast.net (Larry McGowan) Date: Sat Apr 1 18:56:44 2006 Subject: [AdblockPlus] Message About a Slow Script Running Message-ID: <442F130C.403@comcast.net> Wladimir, First, let me apologize for not know how to properly reply to a message. It seems that my last attempt to reply generated a new message without indentation. So, how do I reply to a message? I discovered that the problem was occurring on all pages, even www.google.com which is a very simple page. Then I noticed something else. When I open the AdBlock sidebar it contains all the items for all the pages I have visited since I started the browser (a day or two ago). The sidebar claims to show the items for the current page but that's not correct. It had jillions of items listed even for a simple page like www.google.com. So I closed FireFox and restarted it. The sidebar was then almost empty and the slow response time problem disappeared too! However, I've noticed that every time I go to another web page more items get added to the sidebar. I suspect that when there are too many in there that the slowdown will reappear. I had also noticed a definite delay in right-clicking on any page to bring up the context sensitive menu. Now that I've restarted FireFox that delay is gone too. Should the AdBlock sidebar keep collecting items from all the pages visited since the browser started up? --Larry From trev at gtchat.de Sun Apr 2 03:14:57 2006 From: trev at gtchat.de (Wladimir Palant) Date: Sat Apr 1 19:15:50 2006 Subject: [AdblockPlus] Message About a Slow Script Running In-Reply-To: <442F130C.403@comcast.net> References: <442F130C.403@comcast.net> Message-ID: <442F1781.3010003@gtchat.de> Larry McGowan wrote: > When I open the AdBlock sidebar it contains all the items for all > the pages I have visited since I started the browser (a day or two > ago). Oh, ok. This bug also has been fixed in Adblock Plus 0.7 (release candidate is here: http://p2.forumforfree.com/-vp4974-adblockplus.html#4974). You probably have some extension installed that triggers it, usually it only occurs on Linux.
