W3-2009 Dev Status Update

I've been looking over items on the roadmap and trying to do some research into various topics. Such as:

  • Researching methods for editing wikis easily
  • Researching methods of editing pages easily in Drupal (quick-edit links for title, body, etc)
  • Researching nss/pam-mysql setup in FreeBSD

I have a FreeBSD VM setup to do nss/pam-mysql testing in and have been reading about that. The hope is that we can use our existing user information in mysql to allow users to update their website and upload files using something like FTP instead of CVS.

In the off-time while waiting for things to compile and such I've been trying to get a Mozdev IRC center setup that will house our own logs of the #mozdev channel. I've set up a bot to log the channel and imported thebot's existing #mozdev logs. This bot will also answer bug requests with from the correct bug tracker and announce news items from Mozdev in the channel. I'm still trying to get the bot config loaded into CVS, as well as a script to import logs semi-frequently, and also a script to browse the log files, but those things should come with a little more time (this isn't a high-priority for me; more just trying to plug a minor annoyance with our IRC channel).

Our Drupal instance was upgraded to 5.14 and then to 5.15 when that came out mid-week.

I was also able to modify some of the work I've done analyzing PHP and httpd error logs to generate a nightly report for myself of Mozdev-related errors.

This week I plan on continuing researching our top roadmap items such as the pam/nss-mysql support and improved WYSIWYG editing in Drupal.
